Review: LEGO Harry Potter Minifigure Series 2

As anticipated by rumors and official release, finally the Harry Potter Minifigure Series 2 arrived in September 2020. It is another great series of character directly from the magic world of Harry Potter.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it took me a while to collect all the minifigures, but I am finally ready to release my review.

Compared with the first Harry Potter series which included a small miniseries from the movie Fantastic Beasts and How to Find Them, in this series the characters are all related with the main saga. Furthermore, in the first series, most of the characters were from the first 3 books while in this series they are all from the second half of the saga with some exceptions.

This Harry Potter minifigure series 2 includes 16 unique characters with some at their very first appearance in their LEGO version.

I am a fan of Harry Potter and minifigures, so I really like these minifigure series. At the beginning, I was really enthusiastic, because the color combination was a bit too dark and they were looking old, or vintage fashion. I had a bit to rethink for several of them and I am very enthusiastic of this series 2.

Let’s discover together!

Box and leaflet

The collection comes in the unique bags, where as usual most of the characters are already revealed. The bag are in a dark navy blue a good combination  to enter in the Harry Potter world mood.

As usual, the leaflet shows all the 16 minifigures with their accessories.

On the opposite side there are instructions on how to assemble some of them.

As for the other reviews, I have inserted the direct links to the character, so you can jump immediately to the one of your interest. You can also jump directly at the end of my post to read my summary and conclusions.

Following my other minifigure reviews, I included my personal rating in a scale 1-5 scale. 1: I really don’t like it, 5: I really like it.

Let’s go to the list of the minifigures and I hope you will enjoy my review of Harry Potter Minifigure series 2.

Harry Potter

As expected, the first minifigure of the Harry Potter Minifigure Series 2 is Harry. Actually, I would have been surprised if the series would have started with a different character.

Compared with the series 1, Harry is grown in muggle clothes as on the movie Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

There are no special prints on the clothes of the minifigure. However, Harry comes with a double face: one smiling and another astonished.

I admit that this version of Harry is not as good as others. However, the advanced potion-making book accessory is simply great. It includes a nice cover and a remarkable 1×2 tile inside. The tile contains text and notes and it is clearly readable Sectumsempra: the curse invented by Severus Snape.

Of course, Harry has his wand to complete the minifigure.

I am not a real fan of Harry in muggle clothes and I found a bit simple. However, combined with Ron and Hermione in muggle clothes the trio is a master piece of the collection.

Minifigure rating: 2/5

Albus Dumbledore with Fawkes

Before going to Ron and Hermione, there is the headmaster of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry: Albus Dumbledore.

In this Harry Potter Minifigure Series 2, Albus Dumbledore is in its rich red robe as in the second movie of the saga. It is an updated version of the Albus Dumbledore minifigure on the first Harry Potter Advent Calendar. In particular, we have here the decorated slope brick for the robe: a solution more accurate and similar to the movie.

There are two faces with two happy expression: unfortunately, the beard covers the mouth and it is a bit complicated to see the difference between them. Anyway, Albus is a mysterious character.

The headgear completes the minifigure: it is the special hat decorated with stars and the long white hair.

Finally, Albus has his wand and Fawkes, the phoenix that played a crucial role in Harry Potter saga.

Fawkes in this minifigure is a second version of the phoenix and it is really accurate and well done. It is red with painted details on the chest and head, and also printed texture on the back side. The presence of Fawkes is also a revelation of the new Harry Potter LEGO Set of Fawkes

This minifigure is certainly a homage to Richard Harris, the actor of Albus of the first two movies. Personally, I appreciated a lot Richard Harris as Dumbledore, I found him closer to the character described in the books.

Minifigure Score: 5/5

Hermione Granger

Then, Hermione Granger in muggle clothes, with a mug of Butterbeer from The Three Broomsticks Inn.

The torso has the brown and beige jumper, likewise in the movie, the legs have the jeans and the winter boots. The most interesting aspect are the two faces of Hermione, but unfortunately none of them has the butterbeer moustache.

The remarkable aspect is the butterbeer glass, a new accessory.  It is the same accessory included also with Ron

This version of Hermione is not my favourite character, but in any case a slightly different setup.

Minifigure rating: 3/5

Ron Weasley

To conclude the trio, as usual here we have Ron Weasley, in Muggle clothes with a mug of Butterbeer from The Three Broomsticks.

The torso has the striped jumper and grey legs, as in the movie. The accessories are the wand and the same butterbeer mug as Hermione

The alternative face of Ron is a combination of surprise and disappointing expression.

I am not real fan of this setup of the magical trio, I prefer their wizard costumes. However, I admit that this setup is a nice alternative to reflect the movies.

Moreover, they will fit perfectly with the new Hogsmeade set.

Minifigure rating: 2/5

Luna Lovegood

As in the First Series, here there is Luna Lovegood, a secondary but very interesting character introduced in the second half of the saga.

Luna is in a very special dress which makes this minifigure one of the most interesting. Despite her Ravenclaw House, she had a Gryffindor Lion headdress to cheer the Quidditch Match, to support his friends Ron and Harry.

Torso and legs reflects the colors on the movie: pink trousers with boots and a dark purple jumper with colored dots.

Luna has a double face: a smily and a serious expression.

Moreover she has also a double headgear: the lion headdress and her blonde hair.

Of course, she has also her wand, likewise all the other wizards and witches.

As for the first series, Luna is absolutely one of my favourite character. She is the most bizarre and unique to create magical atmosphere of the Wizarding World.

Minifigure rating: 5/5

The collection continues with Griphook, a Gringott Wizarding Bank’s goblin, who assists Harry to find one of the Horcrux. It is a minor character of the saga, but the minifigure has some interesting details.

As a goblin, the minifigure has the  child size, with the elegant bank employee’s dress. The white shirt is visible in the middle of the torso and it continues on the arms. Moreover, the goblin’s aspect is well created  with both the face print and the headgear which has grey hair and long goblin’s hears.

The back print continues the torso with the same elegance.

As expected, there is only a single face.

Finally, the accessories: Griphook comes with the Gringott’s Key and the Sword of Gryffindor. The key is a normal LEGO key, while the sword is a new master piece, one of the greatest accessory of the entire Harry Potter Minifigure Series 2.

The sword has a very elaborated design with red rubies on the cross guard and pommel, and several details on the hilt.

LEGO already provided a new sword with the knight on the Minifigure Series 20, but the Gryffindor’s sword is another step further.

In general, the minifigure itself is nice, but not so impressive. On the other hand, the sword is really great and it increase significantly the quality of this character.

Minifigure rating: 4/5

Lily Potter with Baby Harry

From the Harry Potter’s family: the first minifigure is Lily Potter with baby Harry. As for the first Harry Potter collection here we have the second minifigure of Harry.

Lily with baby Harry is really a unique combination, mentioned continuously in the saga and shown in several moments on the movies.

Lily comes with a blue dress, actually it is a casual outfit, which includes also a gilet which continues in the back.

She has an alternate face and her long red hair: both expressions are happy and calm.

Lily has her willow’s wand as accessory and also baby Harry. It is the reviewed version of the babies introduced with the LEGO Friends theme and adapted to this theme. The main characteristic of baby Harry is the bluish color and the golden H.

I like this family combination of Lily and James with a baby Harry. Not my favourite characters or minifigures but a nice to have and very welcome in the Harry Potter Minifigure Series 2.

Minifigure rating: 4/5

James Potter

The Harry Potter’s family continues with James Potter.

The minifigure accurately represent James in the movies, with short brown hair and a black suit.

Which continues also in the back with the same accuracy. James has also a double face with a smily and happy faces and he wears glasses in both sides.

The most remarkable aspects of this minifigure are the accessories: the wand, the scarf and the 2×3 decorated tile. The scarf is a minifigure part based on the one introduced in 2017 on the LEGO Ninjago Movie Minifigure Series.

Then, the second accessory is a 2×3 decorated tile with the portrait of Lily and James before Harry was born. It is a quite a masterpiece, because it perfectly replicates the portrait in the movie. Finally, James has his wand.

The single minifigure of James and Lily are nice but together create a steady part in the collection.

Minifigure rating 3/5

Ginny Weasley

The next entry is Ginny Weasley in her dress for the Slug Club Christmas Party.

It is a simple minifigure with some interesting features. The dress printed in the torso and legs is very similar to the movie costume and it is full of details, including the neckless.

The details of the dress continues also in the back, as usual.

Ginny has also an alternate face with a more sly expression. She has also a new headgear to represent her long reddish hair including a golden hair clip.

Finally, Ginny has her wand and the chocolate ice-cream cup as during the Slug Club party.

It is nice to have Ginny in this collection, she was missing in the first series. The selected setup of the minifigure is nice and a nice alternative to the typical scholastic outfit already seen in several other characters. However, the minifigure leaves Ginny quite blocky and a bit bizarre.

Minifigure rating: 3/5

Fred Weasley

The next character of the Harry Potter Minifigure Series 2 is Fred Weasley, or George?

Well, I am not sure if this is Fred or George, but it is fine, also their mother couldn’t recognise them!

Fred is gambling with school kids during the Triwizard Tournament, on the first task.

The minifigure has the same dress as the character and the bag with the board for the gambling.

I admit that the minfiigure is well accurate and full of details, I like the bag with the bets where the letters are easy to read.

There is a unique (for the twins) headgear which combines the red Weasley’s hair with the wool hat.

Fred has an alternative face and a nice back print with the hood.

In general, the minifigure is quite accurate and fun and in a scene not used very much.

Minifigure rating: 4/5

George Weasley

Of course, after Fred, we have George Weasley, or Fred?

George has the same outfit of Fred, they are both during the Triwizard Tournament tasks 1 to support Hogwarts.

George has the coat open with the red and white jumper visible in the back.  The head gear is the same as Fred.

Together with the torso and legs prints, the other difference with Fred are the two faces.

Finally George has the Marauder’s Map as accessory, together with his wand. The map is printed on a 2×2 tile.

I really like the twins in this series. They are equal as in the movie but with unique characteristics. I appreciate their outfit during the Triwizard Tournament which is not really common.

Minifigure rating: 4/5

Bellatrix Lestrange

From the dark wizarding prison of Azkaban here it is Bellatrix Lestrange.

Bellatrix comes in her Azkaban outfit with her wand, the handcuffs and the mugshot.

The entire minifgure is quite accurate giving to Bellatrix the right dark look. She has a double face, both quite malicious and long dark hair.

Bellatrix has the leg replaced by a decorated brick slope and the entire printing is well accurate both in the front and in the back.

Bellatrix is the only villains of Harry Potter Minifigure Series 2 and it is a nice alternative to Voldemort. Moreover, the minifigure of Belaltrix was quite rare because she was available only in the first set of The Burrow (2010) and it is back available also in the new version (2020).

Compared to the movie, the minifigure is a bit blocky, however, the Azkaban outfit is a nice version which is different from the ones available in the other sets.

Minifigure rating: 4/5

Kingsley Shacklebolt

In the Harry Potter Minifigure Sereis 2 we have another character for the first time in LEGO version:  Kingsley Shacklebolt.

He is one of the Aurors of the Order of the Phoenix who help and protect Harry.

He has a purple and blue robe added with a fabric accessory. His dress is very elaborate and it reflects the African suits for important persons.

The prints on the torso and arms have different colors and the fabric improves the overall aspect of the minifigure.

Shacklebolt has only one face and a nice and decorated ornamental hat, kind of Kufi hat with blue and golden details.

The back side of the torso has the same decoration as the front without anything special, anyway,  the fabric robe covers it.

Kingsley is then finished with his black wand and the dark brown broom he uses to help Harry to escape from London.

I really like Kingsley Shacklebolt minifigure in this series, it is a secondary character but it increase the overall collection.

Minifigure rating: 4/5

Moaning Myrtle

This Harry Potter Minifigure Series 2 is really full of newcomers characters and here we have Moaning Myrtle.

Moaning Myrtle appears in pale tones as seen in the movies. The face and the hands are in aqua and the entire body and legs are in sand blue with a very accurate print of the rotten dress of the poor Myrtle.

The back part continues also with the same print, inclluding the hood of the uniform.

Myrtle has then 2 faces: one crying and one very angry: her two main mood of the movies. The aqua color of the face is similar to the Fright Knight of the Series 19. The headgear is the rubber hair of Myrtle in the dark sand blue color.

Moaning Myrtle is really a nice add on to the collection and this ghosty color combination is accurate. You can also make the minifigure flying because with the transparent stand as the Super Heros series

The minifigure is completed with the Tom Riddle’s Diary from the Book 2, where the front cover has the TMR initials.

Inside the book there is a 1×2 tile with the first sentences of the chat between Harry and Tom.

Moaning Myrtle is a new minifigure and not taken for granted. The color combination and the accessories makes her a unfaltering element of any Harry Potter collectors.

Minifigure rating: 5/5

Professor Sprout

Finally, Professor Pomona Sprout, the teacher of Herbology.

Professor Sprout has her working dress for the activities in the green house with the students, in particular to teach the second year students about the mandrake.

Front and back part of the minifigure represent the long working robe of Professor Sprout, which is also well decorated and detailed.

She has a double face with smile and surprised expressions. The great added value of the minifigure is her headgear: it combines the wizard hat with her grey curly hair and the ear protections.

The minifigure is then concluded with the mandrake rout and a pot. The mandrake root is a printed 1×1 round brick, which is good, but it was more effective with the special element in Neville’s minifigure of Series 1.

I like Madama Sprout with her two faces and her working robe. I was missing this minifigure in the Series 1 and I like finally to have it.

Minifigure rating: 5/5

Neville Longbottom

Last but not least Neville Longbottom with the Monster Book of Monsters.

Neville is in his school robe at the third year of Hogwarts. Torso and legs are quite standard with the Gryffindor’s colors and logo.

The back continues with the details of the robe including the hood.

Neville has two faces: both quite typical of the character. One is a serious expression and the other is more scary, and in both cases the front tooth are well visible. The minifigure is then completed with Neville’s hair and his wand.

The most remarkable part of Neville’s minifigure is the Monster Book of Monsters accessory.

It is obtained by a book part with a new front part to replicate the shape of the animated book.

The front has printed the eyes of the monster and inside a white 2×1 slope with a printed mouth complete it.

Among all the students, Neville was one of the few to be attacked by the book!

The minifigure of Neville is quite simple and it is mostly an excuse to present the Monster book of Monsters set.

Minifigure rating: 4/5

Final Comments

There are great minifigures and great accessories in this Harry Potter collection series 2. The collection is quite numerous with 16 characters. I appreciate the amount of new character appeared for the first time: Moaning Myrtle, Kingsley Shacklebolt, James and Lily Potter.

The series concentrates on the Harry Potter family and friends with a limited number of Professors: only Albus Dumbledore and Madama Sprout. Also the number of villains is negligible because only Bellatrix is present.

In general, I appreciated a lot the unique aspect of each character even if already represented several time like Harry, the trio and Albus.

To summarize my review, my favourite minifigures are:

  1. Luna Lovegood
  2. Albus Dumbledore
  3. Professor Sprout
  4. Moaning Myrtle
  5. Neville Longbottom

It is worth mentioning also some combination of characters like the twins Fred and George and the Harry Potter’s family Harry and Lily.

There are still several characters missing and I believe that a new series will arrive, maybe including other professors or villains.

I hope you enjoy reading my review and you also check my previous review. I like to have your feedback, so please leave me a comment below.
